Multidimentional Haircuts

Affecting the realtion of your hair to gravity, space + time

Meticulusly Crafted

When I cut hair, I think of it as sculpting in multiple dimensions, much like how we can think about shapes in different dimensions:

All hair is a culmination 4 planes of existence

  • 1st Dimension: Line
  • 2nd Dimension: Shape
  • 3rd Dimension: Form
  • 4th Dimension: Time

1st Dimension: Line

  • In the first dimension, we have lines.
  • When I cut hair, this can be compared to making precise, straight cuts. Imagine running your scissors straight across a section of hair; you're essentially creating a one-dimensional line.
  • This is the foundation of all haircuts, where each snip contributes to the final shape.

2nd Dimension: Shape

  • The second dimension brings us shapes, like squares or circles.
  • In hairdressing, this is where I start thinking about the overall silhouette of the haircut. It's not just about lines anymore but how those lines come together to form a shape when viewed from the front, back, or sides.
  • Think of a bob or a pixie cut—these styles have distinctive 2D shapes that define them.

3rd Dimension: Form

  • The third dimension adds depth, giving us forms like cubes or spheres.
  • When I cut hair, I'm always thinking about how the hair falls and moves in three-dimensional space. Layers, texture, and volume all come into play here.
  • For instance, creating a voluminous, layered haircut requires understanding how each strand will contribute to the overall 3D form.

4th Dimension: Time

  • The fourth dimension is time, which is a bit abstract in hairdressing but still very relevant.
  • Hair grows, styles evolve, and trends change.
  • When I cut hair, I consider how it will look not just today, but as it grows out. A great haircut should have a shape and form that evolves beautifully over time, maintaining its integrity and style as it grows.
  • By understanding and applying these dimensions, I can create haircuts that are not only visually appealing but also dynamic and adaptable to my clients' lifestyles. It's all about combining art and science to bring out the best in each individual's hair.
